DORANTES trio
What Dorantes and his band offered on the 20th at the National Auditorium was a master class of jazz "jondo". An authentic "Flamenco session". During an hour and a half, the pianist from Lebrija gave a renovating tour of his works, in order to give it, if possible, an even fresher and frenetic air. He reinterpreted and reinvented themes already classics like "Orobroy" or "Barrio Latino", in a recital followed in silence and attention by an audience that finally erupted into a loud ovation, deeply moved at the success and elegance of an unique and unrepeatable musician. The black and white keys on the piano were the stars of the night. Pastora Galvan added color with her personal and risky dance. Jumps, hip movements, turns, and contemporary arm movements but very deeply rooted. Finger cymbals in "La danza de las sombras" and fans in "Semblanzas de un rio" included. In the music of Dorantes, come together the purest sounds of flamenco, which are the result of family tradition, the most classical sounds, acquired during his studies in piano, harmony and composition at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Seville, and the interpretive freedom indebted to his great interest in jazz. A perfect blend of tradition and modernity was summarized by Dorantes himself at the end of his recital. "Flamenco should be in great theaters but also in small rooms, in private parties.
